2 HM holed up militants among 3 killed, RDX, bombs recovered in J

Srinagar, July 10 (UNI) Security forces gunned down three militants, including two ultras who remained holed up in a house for more than eight hour, busted hideouts and recovered deadly RDX, bombs and grenades in the Jammu and Kashmir overnight.

Four people were injured in a militant hand grenade attack at Rainawari in the down town city last night. The injured were hospitalised.

An official spokesman said Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police and 62 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) launched a joint operation at Paderpora in Pulwama district following a tip off that some militants were hiding there.

He said when the security forces were sealing the area, a group of militants opened fire from the house of one Mohammad Shafi Thakor.

Security forces immediately tightened the cordon around the house and rescued all the civilians present in nearby houses.

The fire was returned and in the fierce clash both the holed up militants were killed.

The house was also damaged in the shootout, he said.

However, residents alleged that security forces fired rockets to blast the house.

Two AK rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants. One of the militant was identified as Aiyaz Ahmad Chopan, a local resident.

The spokesman said another militant was killed in an encounter with security forces at Trehgam in the frontier district of Kupwara.

One AK rifle, five magazines and 55 rounds of ammunition were recovered from the slain militant.

Security forces busted a hideout and recovered a huge cache of arms and ammunition, including eight kg deadly RDX, three UBGL grenades, one AK rifle, two magazines an 25 rounds at Drugmulla forest.

According to a police spokesman said the opertion was conducted after receiving an information that militants had stored arms and ammunition in a hideout at Katari Mohalla in Kupwara.

During the operation a hideout was busted and six 84 mm mortar shells and one rocket booster live were recovered.

The mortars shells and booster were destroyed on the spot, he said. No one was arrested.

He said security forces recovered five mortar bombs, four UBGLs, one RPG bomb and three detonators at Surankote last night.
