Tata group looking for more investment in West Bengal

Mumbai, July 9 (UNI) Despite the ongoing controversies over the Tata automobile manufacturing plant in West Bengal, Tata group is looking forward to making more investments in the left-ruled State.

Tata Group Chairman Ratan Tata today asserted that subsidaries of Tata group like Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO), Tata Steel and Tata Power are looking for investments in West Bengal.

Speaking at the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of Tata Motors here, Tata said the company would go ahead with the investment in Singur plant as well and more investment would be made by other Tata Group companies in the State.

''We went to West Bengal when the whole country was at our disposal, but as a responsible corporate citizen, we wanted to boost the development of the region and West Bengal in particular and willing to provide better quality life to the people living there,'' Tata said.

Stating that the plant was caught in a political cross-fire amid a lot of misinformation, Tata said the project would emerge as a turning point for West Bengal's industrial development.

Tata said the company has already placed orders for equipment for its Singur project and the company was working hard to meet the deadline. The project has to be completed in the first half of the year 2008.
