SC dismisses petition seeking removal of Karunanidhi

New Delhi, July 9 (UNI) The Supreme Court today dismissed a petition seeking removal of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for making reckless remarks against the Supreme Court's decision to stay the notification providing 27 per cent reservation to OBCs in admission to centrally-run educational institutions for higher studies.

A bench comprising Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan and Justice R V Raveendran dismissed the petition filed by K R Ramaswamy alias Traffic Ramaswamy after hearing the petitioner in person who contended that reckless allegations and maligning of the Judiciary will shake the faith of common man in the institution of democracy.

The petitioner also sought removal of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister for making the statement ''a situation in which a mere two or three persons (read judges) determine the fate and future of a 100 crore people is harmful to our democracy.'' According to the petitioner the DMK supremo should not be given any constitutional post as he had violated the oath of office under which he had promised to bear true faith and allegiance to the Constitution of India as by law established and also uphold the sovereignty and integrity of the country.

The Supreme Court, said anybody could criticise the court's judgement but one couldn't be punished for that.
