HP: Longest surviving couple in Guinness

Dharamshala, July 9: An elderly couple in Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh is all set to enter the Guinness Book of Records as the longest surviving married couple in the world.

Pyara Singh, (103), and his wife Hansa Devi, (101), were married 83 years ago on May 23, 1924 at Kot Patiala village in Una district of the state, their son Bishambhar Rana said.

He said the details of his parents have already been sent to the record keeper's office last month for entering their name as the longest surviving married couple.

''After conforming the facts, they would enter my father and mother as the longest surviving couple in the world,'' he said.

Mr Singh, born on January 5, 1904, has been an Army pensioner for the last 65 years and has three sons and two daughters.

He joined the army in 1930 and fought in the Second World War as part of the British Indian Army.
