IT industry in Bengal to grow at 46% in 2007-08: IT Minister Debesh
Kolkata, Jul 9(UNI) Announcing training subsidy for the SME IT companies, state IT Minister Debesh Das said here today that the industry in Bengal will grow at the rate of 46 per cent in the current fiscal.
Speaking to mediapersons here at the "ITCon-Destination East" organised by Indian Chamber of Commerce, Dr Das said, ''We have decided to provide training subsidy for the small and medium-sized IT companies, which will set up shop in the state. The amount will be Rs 20,000 per organisation.'' Elaborating on the growth potential and advantages of Bengal as an IT destination, he said, ''Last year growth of the IT industry in the state was 31 per cent compared to national average of 36 per cent.
''This year we have set a growth target of 46 per cent. We also aim to register 100 new companies in Bengal this fiscal, compared to 37 in the previous fiscal,'' he said.
Meanwhile, speaking at the seminar, Oracle India Managing Director Krishan Dhawan said the company has been working with various state governments on projects aimed at enhancing urban and rural connectivity.
