ICMR DG calls for restructuring Health System in the Country

Bangalore, July 9 (UNI) Indian Council for Medical Research (ICMR) Director General N K Ganguly today called for restructuring the Health System in the country to keep in tune with the modern technologies and increase spread of communicable and other diseases.

Addressing the Students of M S Ramaiah Medical College and Teaching Hospital at Graduation Day here, he said there was lack of awareness on modern technologies and fast spreading of communicable and other diseases. To ensure health benefits reach everyone there was need for changing Health System.

He said ''under the present system, the money spent is not reaching the needy and there is need to understand the health system prevailing in the country and restructure it in a way that would ensure health to all''.

Prof Ganguly said that though Education was something which everybody needed, there are other things without which education would not be of useful. Human quality was a most important qualification which everyone should practice for success in the life.

Stating that ethics in life is very important, he said that "without ethics you cannot walk a step. Ethics should be adopted in every action and understanding of ethics is very necessary." Prof Ganguly said that the present the life expectancy was 67 years in the country and this may improve to 75 to 80 years and in providing good health country may overtake China and Japan by 2020-25.

He said that the new communicable diseases spreading like wildfire are a challenge to medical feternity. "We need to invent new drugs at faster rate with concentration on prevention", he added.

Prof Ganguly called for wedding Engineering and Bio-Science.

With modern technology including IT and BT emerging out with many developments, Medical field should take full advantage in ensuring health to all.
