Haryana to set up 'Mahila Shakti Sadans' in villages

Chandigarh, July 9 (UNI) For the empowerment of women and to raise their socio-economic status, the Haryana government has decided to set up of 'Mahila Shakti Sadans' in the villages of the state.

Haryana Women and Child Development Minister Kartar Devi today said Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda had approved the proposal for setting up 'Mahila Shakti Sadans' in rural areas to provide a common platform to the women for undertaking various activities aimed at generation of awareness and their empowerment.

Ms Kartar Devi said the 'Mahila Shakti Sadans' would be constructed in the villages wherein Panchayats would provide 500 square yards of land free of cost for the purpose.

Each 'Mahila Shakti Sadan' would be equipped with a library, furniture, computers and other resources to make the centres self-sufficient for addressing the needs of the women in village, the Minister said.

She said the 'Mahila Shakti Sadans' would also provide a place for holding camps and meetings of 'Mahila Sakshar Samooh, village level committees, organisations of the government and women self help groups.

"The state government under the leadership of Mr Bhupinder Singh Hooda, has introduced number of special incentive-based schemes for providing education to the girls and to make them self-dependent," the Minister said.
