Haryana to augment Yamuna Canal capacity, maintain Tajewala

Yamunanagar, July 9 (UNI) Haryana Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda today said the capacity of Western Yamuna Canal would be increased from 14000 cusec to 20000 cusec by June next year under a Rs 30 crore project.

Mr Hooda was addressing mediapersons here after visiting the Hathni Kund Barrage and the Canal colony at Hathni Kund 35 km from here.

The Chief Minister said that the 100-year-old Tajewala Head Works was a historical heritage of the state and the government was committed to maintaining it properly.

The Hathni Kund Barrage had been constructed in 1999 in place of the Tajewala Head Works, which has outlived its life.

Mr Hooda said that the Haryana Government was making persistent efforts so that the Renuka, Kasau and Lakhwar Vyasi Dams could be constructed soon and the matter had been taken up with the Union Ministry of Water Resources.

He said that Kasau Dam would be construction at a cost of Rs 6500 crore and it would generate 600 MW of power besides 1.07 million acre feet of water could be reserved.

The Renuka Dam would be constructed at an estimated Rs 1776 crore and 0.46 million acre feet of water could be reserved after commissioning the Dam.

Irrigation Minister Capt Ajay Singh Yadav said that the Rs 4231 crore Lakhwar Vyasi Dam would generate 420MW of power besides having reserving capacity of 0.27 million acres feet.

Rohtak MP Deepender Singh Hooda said that Haryana Government was giving special thrust on the promotion of Irrigation facilities in the state and the budget of Irrigation Department had been increased from Rs 150 crore in 2004-05 to 575 crore during the current financial.
