SINGAPORE, July 9 (Reuters) Gold extended gains on Monday after the dollar's rally stalled, while the benchmark contract in Tokyo futures hit its best level in two weeks to track gains in New York and the cash market.

-- Spot gold rose to $654.20/654.90 an ounce from $653.80/654.60 late in New York on Friday, when it rose more than $4 an ounce.

-- Key June 2008 gold futures on the Tokyo Commodity Exchange hit an intraday high of 2,632 yen before dipping to 2,628 yen, still 22 yen higher than Friday's close.

-- The euro hit a record high against the yen and hovered within striking range of its strongest level versus the dollar on Monday as investors continued to flock to the currency on the belief that euro zone interest rates will continue to rise.

-- The euro hovered around $1.3625 , near a record high of $1.3683 hit in April.

-- The dollar was higher at 123.45 yen , recovering from a slip to around 123.35 yen after figures on Monday showed that Japanese machinery orders rose 5.9 percent in May from the previous month, beating forecasts for a 2.3 percent rise.

-- Platinum hit a two week high of $1,294 an ounce before easing to $1,291/1,296 an ounce, still higher than $1,290/1,297 late in New York.

-- The most active contract on TOCOM's platinum, currently June 2008 , rose to its highest in two weeks at 5,105 yen per gram.

-- Silver was steady at $12.68/12.71 an ounce.

-- Palladium rose to $364/369 an ounce from $359.50/363.50.
