Shillong, July 9 (UNI) BSNL employees have called a strike on July 11 to protest the alleged delay of a purchase order for equipment worth Rs 4.5 crore for additional mobile connections.

The Co-ordination Committee of BSNL's Employees Associations and Unions of Executives and Non-Executives in a joint statement today said that two years ago the authorities had planned to provide GS mobile connections to achieve tele-density and placed the order of 30 per cent to the Public sector and the balance worth Rs 4.55 crore to private participants through a global tender.

While Ericsson and Nokia won the tender, Motorola approached the court and the order was delayed.

Motorola withdrew the case in April 2007.

However, the BSNL management was still not willing to go ahead with the plan of purchase, added the union leaders.

They also warned that if the management failed to release the purchase order soon they will launch an indefinite strike after July 11.
