Where dogs turn devotees

Buxar, July 8 (UNI) Dogs are known for faithfulness to their masters, but near Charitravan in Buxar district some of them are paying obeisance to Gods.

The animals are often more punctual than human devotees who may not turn up during the twice-a-day 'aarti' at the Maa Kali and Kal Bhairav temple.

Amused at the devotion of the dogs, chief priest of the temple Omprakash Pandey told UNI here that they turn up every day at 0545 hrs in the temple and stay till 0700 hrs to participate in the Aarti.

''The moment we start ringing the temple bell, these dogs move out of their kennels to pay their obeisance to Goddess Kali and Lord Kal Bhairav,'' Mr Pandey said.

As the aarti begins the dogs, contrary to their natural behaviour, become calm and stand in Pranam mudra by raising their front legs to offer prayer, he added.

''Following the tenets of serious devotees, these dogs never fail to accept prasad before retreating,'' Mr Pandey said.

While trying to ponder over the reason behind the unusual behaviour of the dogs, the priest said as per mythology they are considered as symbol of ''Kal Bhairav''.

Chartitravan is mythologically famous as the centre of learning for Lord Ram as well as Vishwamitra.
