TN CM, Jaya condole Chandra Shekhar's demise

Chennai, July 8 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi today condoled the demise of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar this morning.

In a statement here, Mr Karunanidhi expressed deep shock over his demise and said that he worked to protect the democratic principles in the country.

''Mr Chandra Sekhar's death is a great loss to the nation'', he added.

AIADMK General Secretary J Jayalalitha, in a separate statement, said Mr Chandra Shekhar was outspoken in his views and firm in his commitment to principles.

''He was not a person to mince words and was a nationlist to the core'', Ms Jayalalithaa said, adding he had a distinguished political career and made a distinct mark as a Parliamentarian.

Tamil Nadu Governor Surjit Singh Barnala said, Mr Chandrashekhar was a great parliamentarian and an able administrator who fought for the cause of the poor and downtrodden. He was known for his courage and stood for his ideals and principles, the Governor added.

He conveyed his sincere condolences to the bereaved family members.
