Replicate West Bengal model in other states: Nilotpal

Chandigarh, July 8 (UNI) Rajya Sabha member Nilotpal Basu today exhorted the Left party workers to take inspiration from the Left-front government in West Bengal to gain power in other states as well.

Addressing the workers of Communist Party of India (Marxists) of Punjab and Haryana units here, Mr Basu said the Left front made a record by coming to power for seven consecutive terms through popular vote.

He said though the opposition tried to belittle Left's success by calling it a result of ''poll irregularities'' but victory of the Left parties, by securing more than 50 per cent votes in the five-phase high security polls, in the last elections has now rendered tem quiet.

The Left in West Bengal maintained its winning spree by earning love and confidence of the people by following democratic traditions. This had resulted in its presence at all the levels from grassroot Panchayats to urban bodies to assembly and parliamentary polls in the state, he said, adding that the workers of other states should also attempt to build this kind of rapport with the masses.

Earlier, the CPI(M) units of Punjab and Haryana congratulated the Left Front government in West Bengal on its 30th anniversary and saying that this 'marathon reign' was a result of ''winning the heart of the masses''.
