Mumbai, July 8 (UNI) ''Balirajacha Rajya Yeu De (Let the rule of farmer come)'', an award winning Marathi film on the plight of farmers in Vidarbha and Marathwada region that drove them to commit suicide, will be released here on July 20.

The film is produced by Arun Kachre and directed by Satish Randive. Kachre's debut production was ''Kalubaichya Navacha Changbhala'' in 2004, which was a success. Kachre is perhaps the only Marathi producer to own a touring theatre company where he presents his movie to remote villages in the state where there are no movie theatres.

Speaking about ''Balirajacha Rajya Yeu De'', Kachre said he came from a family of farmers and was aware of the problems of the ordinary farmers in the state. He said the film was well made with a powerful message.

''My film is to enthuse and instill a sense of confidence to live among the farmers who have been suffering from loss of crop due to natural clamities, debt and inadequate price for the produce over the past few years,'' he added.

Kachre said city dwellers are not aware how in the 21st century, villages and illiterate farmers continue to be in the grip of Sahukars (money lenders) who charge them exhorbitant rates of interest. ''For many villagers, 'sahukars' are 'sarkars' and they are forced to mortage even their womenfolk if they are not able to pay dues on time,'' the producer added.

The film stars noted Marathi actors like Ashok Saraf, Neena Kulkarni, Dr Girish Oak, Prasad Oak, and Sachin Khedekar. It has been produced at a budget of Rs one crore, Kachre said.

He said the growing incidence of farmers suicide has been a socially burning issue. ''My film has a message for farmers and the ruling class. Just special financial packages will not help the distraught farmers but the need of the hour is the will power to live and face all odds successfully,'' he added.

Item girl Rakhi Sawant draped in a nine yard saree will be seen doing a ''lavni (folk dance)'' number in the film. Director Satish Randive said the item number was included to attract youth to cinema halls.

''We want to create awareness about the gravity of the plight of farmers among all sections of the society. I am happy that the film encouraged youth in districts of Marathwada to take on the sahukars and reclaim their family properties,'' he added.
