Jagjivan Ram strived for equity based society : Soz
Patna, July 8 (UNI) Union Water Resources Minister Saifuddin Soz today said that former Deputy Prime Minister and veteran leader of oppressed classes Babu Jagjivan Ram had strived to create an equal society, devoid of any discrimination on the basis of caste and creed.
Addressing a seminar organised here to mark his 21st death anniversary, Prof Soz said that Babu Jagjivan Ram had diligently discharged his responsibilities during his tenure as minister in the Union Government and the services rendered by him during that period would always be remembered.''I consider Babuji as the best Defence Minister the country has ever seen,'' he noted.
'' Whenever Babuji used to speak on vital issues in Parliament, he splashed his ideals, aimed at fulfilling the aspirations of millions of underprivileged of the society,'' Prof Soz said, adding he never missed the veteran leader's speech in the Parliament.
Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister of Social Justice and daughter of the late Deputy Prime Minister Meira Kumar, recalled how Babuji struggled to remove untouchability from the society.''If any one visits the Chandwa village in Bhojpur district--the birth place of Babuji, he would feel how difficult it was to strive for equity in the society during those days,'' she added.
