ITI Kheowali and Abul Khurana to developed for apparel, building

Chandigarh, July 8 (UNI) Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today cleared the decks for statewide initiative for Skill Development Centers (SDC) to equip the youth for profitable employment avenues.

The state government proposes to set up a network of SDC's in different trades of industries such as pharmaceutical, apparel sector, construction sector, small engineering and electronics etc.

In the first phase of this intiative, the Punjab Chief Minister, today approved the project of developing ITI(West) Kheowali and ITI Abul Khurana to SDCs for apparel sector and construction sectors respectively.

In a high-level meeting with the members of the Industries and officers of Technical Education, it was decided to upgrade the two institutes into specialized industry for providing training course as per the requirement of the industries and market.

In ITI Kheowali, 100 students would be admitted in advance module for six months each in fashion, garment technology and design.

In the second phase weaving and spending module shall be launched with the guidance of Trident Group of Industries and 100 students will be admitted in this course also. The first batch of students would start getting information in apparel sector from July, 2008.

Keeping in view the increasing demand of skilled construction workers for the domestic as well as foreign construction companies, the Chief Minister also approved ITI Abul Khurana to be developed as a SDC for construction sector. The students would be provided specialized training in mesons, Bar binding and Plumbing etc.

The Chief Minister also asked to provide necessary linkage for employment within and outside state especially to the European, North America and Gulf States. The special courses would also be launched to upgrade the technical skills of existing work forces. The first batch of students would get admission in January, next year.
