IED found near Dal Lake, defused

Srinagar, July 8 (UNI) A major tragedy was averted on the busy Boulevard road on the bank of the famed Dal Lake when a powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED ) was detected and defused this evening.

Official Sources said a security forces patrol party detected a powerful IED, planted by militants, on the bank of the Dal Lake near the crowded Nehru Park where a large number of people were present.

Hundreds of people who had come from different parts of the city besides tourists present in the area were taken to safer places.

Traffic on the busy road was stopped.

Later, the bomb disposal squad was summoned and the IED was defused.
