'Hot Tap' suggested to extract fuel from sunken MV Denden

Mangalore, July 8 (UNI) The salvage company 'Svitzer Wijsmuller' which had carried out survey of the sunken ship 'MV Denden' off Mangalore Coast at Tannirbavi near New Mangalore Port last week at a meeting held at New Mangalore Port Trust (NMPT) has suggested the 'Hot Tap' system to extract fuel from the ship that sunk last week.

NMPT Deputy Conservator K V Vaswani, in a release here, said that through the 'Hot Tap' system, the fuel would be extracted by fixing of a tap to the hull of the sunken ship and drain out the fuel using high power pumps that would be kept on the shore.

He said that a team of divers have already left Mumbai and would be arriving here to carry out the operation.

The meeting was attended by NMPT Chairman P Tamilvanan, Deputy Chairman M A Bhaskar, Capt. Vaswani, Mr.Kerswah, MMD surveyor and the representatives of Inter Coastal Ship Owners, the salvage company from Holland, representatives of James Machentosh and the diving experts from Mumbai to chalk out the plan of action for salvage operation of the ship.
