Rajkot, July 8 (UNI) Former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP from Amreli Dilip Sanghani has alleged he had received a threatening call from an industrialist here.

Mr Sanghani, speaking to UNI over the phone, alleged he had received a call from one Vasant Gajera who had threatened to kill him for his reported statements against the Patidar community.

Mr Sanghani said he was in Rajkot yesterday to attend a marriage function when he received the call. He said he had lodged a complaint with the Amreli police in this regard.

Mr Gajera, who owns a diamond business and is supposed to be a supporter of former Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel, had invited Mr Sanghani to attend the Patidar Sammelan at Surat on June 11. But, Mr Sanghani had reportedly declined to attend, saying ''it would be against the BJP Party''.

The 'Patidar Sammelan' was held as a show of strength against Chief Minister Narendra Modi and was attended by a large number Patel community members.

Meanwhile, Mr Gajera has denied the allegation. Local newspapers have quoted Mr Gajera as saying he had never called Mr Sanghani over the phone and the latter was merely resorting to a ''political stunt''.
