Chandrashekhar was finest product of socialist movement: Krishna
Mumbai, July 8 (UNI) Maharashtra Governor S M Krishna has expressed deep sorrow over the demise of former Prime Minister and veteran socialist leader Chandrashekhar in New Delhi this morning, describing him as ''the finest product of India's socialist movement who dominated the national political scene for nearly four decades''.
In his condolence message, Mr Krishna said Chandrashekhar ''was a firebrand leader with rebellious streak that separated him from his contemporary leaders''.
The Governor said in his youth, Chandrashekhar was inspired by veteran leaders like Acharya Narendra Dev and Jay Prakash Narayan. He turned out to be a worthy successor of the socialist leaders.
An outstanding Parliamentarian, Chandrashekhar had total grasp of the national and international issues and lent his voice to raise the problems of the common people. ''His death has snatched from us a towering leader with genuine concern for the people,'' the Governor said in his condolence message.
''I join the nation and the people of Maharashtra in offering my respectful tribute to Chandrashekhar,'' the Governor stated.
