Art exhibition wins appreciation in Asom

Guwahati, July 8 (UNI) If paintings are vying for attention, beautiful hand-made sculptures are luring you from just round the corner with some wonderful sketches and other art forms in multiple media.

A mesmerizing month-long display of art works at Srimanta Sankardeva Kalashetra here would conclude on August 5 next.

Public Relations Officer Antara Choudhury informed that 117 pieces of works of art are on display in the exhibition.

Altogether 236 entries were received for the show, which were shortlisted by a two-member jury, she added.

The jury included Abhimanie VG of the College of Art, New Delhi, and M H Borbhuyan of the Centre for Cultural and Creative Studies, NEHU.

The selected entries included 53 paintings, 14 sculptures, 30 graphics and sketches and 10 entries in mixed media, the PRO said.

She further said, besides the northeastern states, entries were also received from West Bengal, Bihar and Baroda.

''We hope for a more marked nation representation in the coming years,'' the PRO added.

Six best entries in each section were awarded a cash prize of Rs 50,000 each, while 10 others received certificates of commendation.
