SPG rushes to Jammu over PM visit on July 10

Jammu, July 7: A Special Protection Group (SPG) team arrived here last evening to ensure foolproof security in and around the General Zorawar Singh auditorium complex at the Jammu University in the wake of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's visit to the varsity on the occasion of its convocation on Tuesday.

A team of Deputy Commissioner Jammu, SSP Jammu, SSP Security, SSP Traffic and others also visited the campus to assess the situation.

SSP Jammu Mukesh Singh said the arrangements were made to ensure the foolproof security during the PM's visit.

''As part of the arrangements, the movement to the campus would be prohibited from tomorrow. But, those engaged in the process would be provided the pass entry, '' he added.

The Prime Minister would also be honoured with the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Letters by Jammu and Kashmir Governor and Chancellor of the university, Lt Gen (Retd) S K Sinha, according to the schedule.

On the occasion, Dr Singh will address intellectuals and academicians to mark the varsity's second convocation.
