Shekhawat to declare his assets before EC

New Delhi, July 7: Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat, who is contesting the Presidential poll as an Independent, will unilaterally declare his assets before the Election Commission.

This was announced here today by Mrs Sushma Swaraj, the spokesperson for the Presidential nominee backed by the NDA.

Mrs Swaraj said the Vice President was making the declaration voluntarily responding to the demand for probity in public life. ''He is doing it on his own as the law does not require filing such a declaration and he is certainly not expecting such a declaration from his UPA rival Pratibha Patil,'' she said.
