Rana Gurjit Singh's son joins police probe in criminal case

Kapurthala, July 7 (UNI) Rana Inderpartap Singh, son of Jalandhar Congress MP Rana Gurjit Singh, today joined the police investigations in an 'attempt to murder' case registered against him and three others on the eve of assembly elections.

City DSP Sukhdev Singh Chhina told UNI that Rana Inderpartap Singh told the police that he was not present at the time of firing incident at the house of Akali leader Dilwinder Singh Sidhu on February 12.

Singh was accdompanied by his lawyer to Sadar police station to join the police investigations under court's directive. He was questioned for about an hour by Sadar SHO Sukhwinder Singh and other police officials, the DSP said.

had moved a bail application in the court of Additional District and Sessions Judge and the court had directed him to join the police investigations on July 7 and fixed the next hearing on July 12.

Police had registered a case under section 307,188,171B,427,148 and 149 IPC against Rana Inderpartap Singh, his cousin Lovely and Block Samiti member Joginder Singh Sidhu for firing at the house of Akali leader Dilwinder Singh Sidhu on February 12 at village Sidhwan Dona just before assembly polls.

However, within ten days, the names of Rana Inderpartap Singh and his brother Veer Partap Singh were dropped by the police from the two FIRs and challans in the court.

After SAD-BJP government came to power, Dilwinder Singh moved an application to SSP Rakesh Aggarwal who ordered city DSP Sukhdev Singh Chhina to hold an inquiry after which their names were reincluded in the FIR.

Meanwhile, a large number of Congress workers assembled this morning at the office of Rana Gurjit Singh to express solidarity with the leader.

Addressing the workers, Gurjit Singh alleged that the SAD-BJP government had ''unleashed a reign of terror on the Congress workers by implicating them in false cases''.

He alleged that more than 100 Congress workers in Kapurthala were booked in the ''false'' cases by the police during 100 days of SAD-BJP government.
