Orissa govt to set up a nuclear power plant

Bhubaneswar, July 7(UNI) Construction of a nuclear power plant in Ganjam district is under active consideration of the Orissa government, Energy Minister Surya Narayan Patra told the Assembly today.

Replying to a question of Mr Trinath Behera(Cong), Mr Patra said the government is considering to set up the plant in Chikiti block of the Ganjam district.

He said the Nuclear Power Corporation Limited, a Public Sector Undertaking had informed that Pati Sonapur area of the block had the potential to set up a nuclear power plant to generate 6000 MW of power.

The PSU had also proposed to dig six borewell of 100 metre depth in the area to reconfirm the suitability of setting up of a nuclear plant there, Mr Patra said.
