Kochi Metro Rail Project to be executed by DMRC: Minister

Kochi, July 7 (UNI) Kerala Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Vijayakumar today said the state government had decided to hand over the execution of the Kochi Metro Rail Project to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

Speaking at a function here, he said a decision to this effect was taken after a recent meeting of Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan and DMRC Managing Director E Sreedharan.

Stressing that there was no uncertainity in the project, Mr Vijayakumar said the government was expecting to start the project work and complete it as early as possible.

He also informed that a Rs 16 crore 'model court complex' with various facilities for litigants and lawyers would be set up here.

The government was also planning to start two maritime academies in Kasargode and Thiruvananthapuram to impart training to the young aspirants, he said.

The effort will be to provide more employment opportunity for the young population and it would be commissioned by year-end, Mr Vijayakumar added.
