Coop.Bank poll cancelled due to violence in TN district

Kancheepuram, Jul 7 (UNI) Elections to Cooperative Bank were cancelled at Mutthialpet near Kancheepuram following the violence unleased by a group of persons, who also snatched a ballot box and tore the electoral slips as the voters assembled here today.

Talking to newspersons here Election Officer(EO) Srinivasan said a fresh date for the cancelled poll would be announced later.

Sources said DMK District Secretary of Iyyanpettai and his followers were responsibile for the incident.

The District DMK Treasurer G Sukumar and the senior Congress leader and Zonal Councillor of Mutthialpet, R V Ranjeet Kumar, were among 32 candidates, contesting for 11 administrative posts.

Mutthialpett, Iyanpettai, Arivai, Pucchivakkam, Villivalam, were among other villages covered under the district.

A police party led by the district Police Superintendent A Muniappan rushed to the spot and enquiried about the incident from Mr Srinivasan.
