AP Govt announces Rs 500 crore package this year

Machilipatnam, July 7 (UNI) Andhra Pradesh Animal Husbandry and Fisheries Minister Mandali Prasad today said the government had sanctioned Rs 500 crore to improve animal husbandry, dairy and fisheries sector in the current financial year.

Addressing a week long 'Rytu Vignana Sadassu' at Gannavaram in Krishna district here, the minister said under the Chief Minister's package, the goverenment had decided to distribute one lakh milk cattles to the poor with 50 percent subsidy, earlier it was distributed with 25 per cent.

The minister said the state goverenment was keen to upgrade the Veterinary Medical College at Gannavaram to Post Graduate status.

Due to some technical hurdles, the government was not able to increase veterinary seats from the existing 175 to 300, the minister said and expressed confidence that the seats would be increased by the next academic year.
