Srinagar, July 6 (UNI) A teenager was killed and scores of people, including mediapersons, were wounded, some of them seriously, in violent clashes between protestors and police in downtown city even as complete shutdown was observed in Kashmir today against the alleged spurt in the human rights violations in the Valley.

Sources and eyewitnesses said a 16-year-old boy, Muntazir Ahmad, a resident of Bohri Kadal, was seriously wounded when hit by a bullet during the clash near the Jamia grand mosque at Nowhatta in downtown city this evening.

The injured boy was immediately rushed to the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Soura where the doctors declared him brought dead, they added.

Muntazir, a class X student, had received bullet injuries on his right thigh and apparently died to excessive blood loss.

Another boy, Irshad Ahmed (22), was critically wounded in the clash. He was battling for life at SKIMS.

As the news of the death of the teenager spread, hundreds of angry mourners came on the roads to protest the killing.

The frenzied mob later damaged several vehicles in the area. When reports last came in, the angry protestors had gathered at the Nowhatta police station, demanding strict action against the errant police personnel and a thorough probe into the incident.

Superintendent of Police (SP), North City, Bashir Ahmed Khan said the police would ascertain the actual cause of the death of the boy.

The police will look into all the aspects and try to find out the cause of the death of Muntazir, he added.
