Sukhbir seeks liberal credit support from JBIC Japan

Chandigarh, July 6 (UNI) The Shiromani Akali Dal Working President Sukhbir Singh Badal today urged the Japan Bank of International Cooperation to "invest in infrastructure development and power sector initiatives in Punjab in a big way.

Mr Badal made this plea to the delegation of JBIC that called on him to discuss the investment plans of the Bank for Punjab late last evening, a SAD press release said here today.

Mr Badal explained to the Japanese delegation that Punjab has finalised an ambitious programme to augment 5000 MW of power from thermal, hydro, biomass, nuclear and solar plants. He said that the state government spending over Rs.1500 crores in rehabilitating 1300 KM road network of the state. Besides over Rs 2000 crores are being spent in augmenting water supply to rural areas.

The JBIC delegates assured the acting president that the Bank has an ambitious plan to provide massive credit support to Punjab government.
