State govt negligent towards hawkers: Thombre

Kolhapur, Jul 6 (UNI) All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) Maharashtra State Vice-President Tanaji Thombre today criticised the State government's negligent attitude towards hawkers.

Com Thombre, who is also State CPI excutive member, said that the national draft for hawkers had been prepared in 2004. However, the State government has so far failed to inform the Union government to adopt the law in this connection.

Other states are submitting its reports to Union government to turn the draft into law for the welfare of hawkers, he said and charged the Maharashtra government with 'negative' attitude towards hawkers.

He was speaking as chief guest at the 39th Annual General Body meeting of the Kolhapur Hawkers Union affiliated to AITUC held here.

The meeting was presided over by veteran CPI leader Com Govind Pansare.
