Special committee to probe quality of Kawas houses
Barmer, July 6 (UNI) A special committee has been set up to probe the quality of the construction materials used to build houses to rehabilitate last year's Kawas flood victims, following damage to them after the first spells of showers this year.
At least 453 marooned families in Kawas village, which was totally submerged in last year's flash floods in August, were given new houses as part of the rehabilitation process.
The district administration had allotted newly-built houses to victims of flood in Magra near Barmer but the allottees did not start staying in them.
With the first good spell of showers, water seeped into foundation of the houses, weakening its basement considerably. The allottees handed over a memorandum to district collector Subir Kumar yesterday regarding the matter.
Mr Kumar has set up a special committee under Public Works Department's superintendent engineer to look into the matter and probe the quality of construction materials used to construct these houses.
The Collector said the houses were built by Awaas Vikas Sansthan and action would be taken against those found guilty of using substandard material for construction of the houses.
