Seven feared drowned in boat capsize in the Ganges

Barh, July 6 (UNI) At least seven people were feared drowned when a country made boat carrying 25 people capsized midstream in the rainfed Ganges in the district this morning.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Nilesh Kumar here said the mishap occurred when the overcrowded boat was caught in the swirling water midstream and capsized immediately afterwards at around 0730 hrs.

While seven people, including the boatman, went missing, all others, however, swam to safety despite the strong current in the river.

The ill-fated boat was ferrying a group of cattle traders from the Bandra Diara village on one side of the river to the Kazi Chawk area on the other side, the DSP informed adding that efforts had already been initiated to trace the missing people.
