Jaipur, July 6 (UNI) With the recent open borewell incident proving to be dangerous, Rajasthan government has appointed Home Department as the nodal agency to monitor open borewells in the state and will take police help to cover them up.

At a meeting held here today, state Chief Secretary D C Samant expressed concern over such incidents and directed Urban Development Department and Public Health Engineering Department officials to cover all the open tubewells, borewells and drains in the state.

On private companies digging borewells and letting them remain open, Mr Samant said the gram panchayats will be involved in the process and they have been asked to submit a report on borewell status.

Mr Samant said all open borewells should be covered by caps with immediate effects to prevent such incidents in future. That is why the Home Department has been made the nodal agency in this case.

It is being assumed that five-year-old Suraj's falling into a borewell and many such past incidents have made the state government to think on such lines.
