PUCL to hold students' convention on July 8

Ahmedabad, Jul 6 (UNI) Condemning the deteriorating state of universities in Gujarat, People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL) has called for a State-wide convention on July 8.

Speaking to reporters here today, PUCL working president and social activist Prakash Shah said ''There are many instances in which the provisions of University Act enshrined in the Indian constitution were breached without impunity.'' ''The first and foremost example of this prevalent anarchy was the arbitrarily sacking of MS University dean and misbehaviour with students,'' said Mr Shah.

''The other instances include misuse of power by University dean, breaking of rules and regulations in admission to the students in scheduled caste and scheduled tribe quota, privatisation of colleges and hike in students' fees,'' added Mr Shah exhorting students, parents and citizens to participate in the convention.
