Puducherry, July 6 (UNI) The Parliamentary Standing Committee on health and family welfare, which visited Puducherry recently to hear the views on conversion of JIPMER into an autonomous institution, would take an impartial decision in the issue, PMK leader Prof Dhanraj, MP, said today.

Addressing a press conference at Nallam Farm house, near here, he said the aspirations of the people would certainly be considered while taking a decision. The people of Villuppuram district were more benefitted by JIPMER than Puducherry. The PMK wanted JIPMER to become a Centre of excellence, he said.

Prof Dhanraj said that in a bid to improve rural amenities, he had convened a meeting of panchayat presidents at Nallam Farm house, in which 100 people participated and discussed various issues. About 100 panchayat presidents would be invited every month for such a meeting, he said, adding that the meeting also discussed on how to utilise the funds allocated by the central and state governments for the district panchayat boards and planting medicinal saplings in all government schools of the district.
