Mumbai, Jul 6 (UNI) Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has clarified that there was no epidemic of monsoon related diseases in the megapolis.

Additional Municipal Commissioner Kishor Gajbhiye, in a statement, has assured that there is absolutely no reason to panic on account of monsoon related diseases as the cases are comparable with the fair season average and all the health related measures are being taken care of well.

He was reacting to media reports about the city being under the attack of monsoon related diseases.

Mr Gajbhiye informed that, admissions of all fever cases in municipal hospitals on any given day including summer, are between 100-120. Out of those cases about 6-12 are of Malaria. On July three, data of monsoon related diseases indicates that fever cases are 108, Malaria cases are 14, Leptospirosis cases are 2 and Gastro cases are 23.

He said it clearly shows that fever and Malaria cases have not increased at all as compared to the fair season. There is a marginal increase only in Gastro cases which can be attributed to people not taking precautions like cleaning hands before eating, boiling drinking water or not indulging in street side food.

"MCGM's insecticide department has done several rounds of spraying the insecticides and destroying the mosquito larvae. All municipal hospitals have stocked requisite medicines and testing kits in sufficient measure and doctors have been assigned duties round the clock. The status of monsoon related diseases in the city is being closely monitored in the Epidimeology cell in Kasturba Hospital and I am reviewing the situation every morning." Said Mr. Gajbhiye.
