Municipal employee dies in the sewage cleaning operation

Amritsar, July 6 (UNI) A Municipal Corporation employee today died inside a sewer in Vijaynagar locality at Batala Road area here.

The body of Hira Singh, in his late 20s, was taken out after about six-hour-long search of the sewage route by fire tenders and the rescue workers.

The body was found stuck in the silt some distance away from the man-hole that he had climbed down this afternoon to clean the blocked sewer.

He was apparently swept away by gushing water and then stuck in the accumalated silt, police sources said.

When he did not surface for sometime and did not even respond, his colleagues informed the seniors, who rushed to the spot and called in the fire service to aid in the rescue operation.

The body of Hira Lal, who was a bachelor, will be handed over to his family after the post mortem, police said.
