Mumbai to get 2 underground parking lots

Mumbai, July 6: Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) today said it has decided to construct two underground parking lots here to deal with the shortage of parking space.

The decision was taken at a Standing Committee meeting of the BMC yesterday. The parking lots will be designed by Hafeez Contractor.

The sites opposite Regal Cinema junction to Hutatma Chowk and Mahatma Phule Mandal junction at Crawford Market have been earmarked for underground parking. Each site will accomodate at least 2000 vehicles.

Congress corporator Vinod Shekhar and NCP's Niyaz Vaanu opposed the move, saying the BMC Commissioner should not appoint any contractor or architect without asking for tenders, and asked why Mr Contractor should be given preference in the underground parking proposals.

The parking lots will be ready in a month's time, according to BMC officials.
