New Delhi, July 6 (UNI) A minor fire broke out in a Metro train in the early hours today, while it was on a trial run.

The incident took place at 1.28 hrs in the under-frame of the train at Shadipur station on the Indraprastha-Dwarka Sec-9 line when traction motor and converter-inverter temperature rise tests were being conducted in the train.

These tests are meant to determine the safety of these equipment under extreme heat condition of up to 260 degrees Celsius with the train running at maximum speed (80 kmph) with simulated full loading (98 tonnes), he said.

The fire was brought under control in half-an-hour, and there were no injuries or damage to other property, said Mr Dayal.

A reactor located in the under-frame of one coach started emitting smoke in view of temperature sensitivity and the fire brigade and Metro staff used fire extinguishers/water jets to bring the situation under control. The smoke was brought fully under control at 0202 hrs.

Senior DMRC officials were present at the station. The affected train was later taken to the Najafgarh depot where investigations are going on.

Normal passenger services on all three Metro lines started at 0600 hrs as usual, said Mr Dayal.

Fire service officials described the fire as ''minor''. Four fire tenders were deployed, they said.
