Man sentenced to 1 year prison term for power theft

Nadiad, July 6 (UNI) A local court sentenced a man to one year's prison term for power theft worth Rs 40,000 in 2005.

Sessions Judge H P Bakshi sentenced Joyita K Parmar, a resident of Jamini village in Katlal taluka, to prison term yesterday after he was found guilty of pilfering power from the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) line. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.20 lakh, in default, he would have to undergo an additional prison term of three months.

Parmar stole the power from GEB line for his 10 horse power motor attached to his well at his farm. The power theft came to light on January 6, 2005, when the GEB officials from Katlal raided his farm and detected the theft, which was estimated at Rs 40,000.
