Chennai, July 6 (UNI) Tamil Nadu Chief Minsiter M Karunanidhi today urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to take appropriate action and ensure that Karnataka released water to the Mettur dam from Krishnarajasagar.

In a letter to the Prime Minister, a copy of which was released to the press here, the Chief Minister said as the monsoon was very active in Karnataka, the dams were getting filled up and the inflow into Krishnarajasagar was also adequate for the release of sufficient quantity of water to Mettur dam.

However, a shocking news had appeared in the dailies that Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Yediyurappa had ordered to stop the release of water from Krishnarajasagar to Tamil Nadu.

''They have also spread news saying that the agriculturists in Karnataka are agitating against release of water to Tamil Nadu.

I am afraid whether this approach of Karnataka and its Deputy Chief Minister are in tune with the federal structure of our Constitution.

I am bringing this to your kind attention for appropriate action,'' Mr Karunanidhi said.
