Kamat pledges for people-friendly govt, good governance

Panaji, July 6 (UNI) Chief Minister Digambar Kamat reiterated his resolve to better the lot of common man through people-friendly government and good governance.

Speaking at a function at Aquem near Margao where he, along with Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira was felicitated by the State electricity department today, Mr Kamat urged bureaucrats to change their mindset so that they can win the hearts of the common man.

''Whenever a common man visits a government office, he should be treated properly besides attending to his needs promptly. The government servants should keep in mind that they are also a part of the society and work for its benefit,'' he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Power Minister Sequeira warned of initiating stern action against electricity employees absenting from duties owing to alcoholism.

He also hinted at making surprise visits to the offices to check absenteeism.
