Varanasi, July 6: After a day-long drama between the supporters of jailed former Samajwadi Party MLA Uday Bhan Singh 'Doctor' and higher-ups of Banaras Hindu University (BHU) hospital here, the ex-legislator was this morning shifted back to Bhadohi district jail.

The former legislator undergoing life sentence in a murder case at Bhadohi (Gyanpur) district jail has been sent back to jail in neighbouring district under heavy security after he was discharged and referred for further treatment of a 'renal stone' to Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGIMS), Lucknow, police said here today.

Uday Bhan was brought from the Bhadohi jail to Sir Sunder Lal BHU hospital on June 28 for treatment and diagnosed to be suffering with a renal stone. Later, the ex-legislator was admitted in special ward under police custody.

During the course of his stay at the special ward, the mafioso-turned-ex MLA was frequented by a large number of visitors which disturbed other patients at the ward, BHU hospital sources claimed.

The matter took an ugly turn on Wednesday night when some supporters of Uday Bhan misbehaved with female attendants taking care of their patients.

The matter was brought to the notice of the on-duty medical and nursing staff, but they could not prevent his supporters from the objectionable conduct at the hospital.

The medical and nursing staff after failing to manage the situation instead locked themselves inside their duty room. The entire episode was brought to the notice of Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of BHU hospital S C Choodamani Gopal yesterday, who herself went to take stock of the situation at the special ward. Prof Gopal on reaching the ward found ex-legislator's supporters playing cards along with the cops under whose custody Uday Bhan was being treated at the hospital, a doctor who accompanied the CMS at the ward confided on terms of anonymity.

Angered by the objectionable behaviour, the CMS immediately contacted the urologist under whose supervision Uday Bhan was being treated. The urologist told the CMS that the jailbird, diagnosed with a renal stone could be treated through Lithotripsy, but the equipment for that could only become operational in 10 days.

After this the doctors at the hospital, immediately referred Uday Bhan for further treatment of the renal stone to SGPGIMS, Lucknow, which the supporters of the ex-MLA claimed was done under pressure of the CMS and they refused to take him away.

A hospital discharge slip was prepared at 1700 hrs last evening, but none of the supporters of Uaday Bhan came to receive it.

The deadlock between the BHU hospital staff and supporters of Uday Bhan over the jailbaird's discharge from hospital continued for more than four hours.

Later, on the request of local police which claimed inadequate police force to take back the jailbird to Bhadohi jail, the CMS late last night granted a time till 0800 hrs today for discharing Uday Bhan from the hospital.

Additional police force arrived from neighbouring district early today following which Uday Bhan was shifted back to Gyanpur jail, SHO Lanka Police Station Sanjay Kumar Pandey informed.

BHU hospital CMS Prof Gopal, however, trying to stay clear of any controversy merely said ''as the machine needed for treatment of renal stone of the patient was not working presently, we discharged him from the hospital and referred him for further treatment to SGPGIMS, Lucknow.''
