CPI lauds free rice scheme exclusively for BPL families
Puducherry, July 6 (UNI) The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (CPI) today welcomed the territorial administration's decision to provide ten kg of free rice to the BPL families holding red colour ration cards.
Addressing a press conference here, CPI Territorial Secretary Na Ra Kalainathan said the Chief Minister had taken the right decision to provide rice only to red colour ration card holders. However, several families eligible for red colour ration cards were having yellow cards, he noted and demanded that the Government conduct a re-survey to provide red colour cards to all the eligible people.
He said the party would stage demonstrations in front of nationalised banks at nine centres here tomorrow to protest against the ''slackness'' on the part of banks in disbursing education and agriculture loans, even after Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram had advised to ensure speedy disbursement of the loans.
