Assembly members demand regulating of marriage expenses
Bangalore, July 6 (UNI) Karnataka Legislative Assembly members cutting across party lines today demanded a legislation to simplify the conducting of marriage ceremonies and regulate wasteful expenses.
Mr Vatal Nagaraj (Vatal Kannada Cheluvali Paksha) initiating the debate on a Private Members' Bill moved by Mr Ramesh Kumar and himself in the Assembly said that the Marriage Halls in the city and elsewhere were charging exhorbitant and it needs to be regulated.
He said that due to the high charges by Kalyan Mantaps the old traditions of the marriage ceremonies were losing their values and meaning like hosting a reception a day before the actual marriage ceremony.
Mr Ramesh Kumar said that the wealthy class that indulges in exhibiting their wealth during the marriage ceremonies should get the clearance from the Income Tax department.
All the members condemned the glorification of marriage ceremonies and said that it is an insult to the commonman in this civilised society.
The House earlier took up the debate on the prevailing flood situation in the state. The reply by the government is expected on Monday.
Speaker Krishna adjourned the House for Monday.
