Andhra Pradesh: AIMIM to boycott Prez poll
Hyderabad, July 6: The All India Majilis-e-Ittehaadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) Executive met here and decided to boycott the Presidential election.
A press release said the party was dejected over the controversial remarks of the UPA-Left Front Presidential candidate Pratibha Patil on the 'purdah' system.
Ms Patil's remarks were unwarranted and it amounts to interference in the Muslim Personal Law (Shariat), the release said.
The remarks also constituted a distortion of historical facts and would hurt the sentiments of Muslim community in India. Her clarification on the issue was not at all satisfactory. Hence, the MIM decided to abstain from voting in the Presidential election, the release added.
