AIIMS delays Senior Residency selection results

New Delhi, July 6 (UNI) The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) has delayed the final results for senior residency selection written-cum-interview following allegations of discrimination against reserved category candidates.

The Institute has sought legal opinion in the matter and will declare the results only when it gets a go ahead from its legal cell, AIIMS spokesperson Shakti Kumar Gupta said.

''Some candidates had approached Union Health Minister Anbumani Ramadoss with the allegations. He had asked the administration to seek legal opinion,'' he added.

Dr Gupta dismissed the allegations of discrimination, saying proper procedure was followed in the selection process.

He said the written examination was held in June and candidates who scored 50 per cent or more marks were eligible for departmental assessment.

''The total number of candidates called for departmental assessment was three times the number of seats available. In the unreserved category, a total of 409 appeared in the senior residency entrance examination of which 170 qualified.

And finally 69 candidates were selected depending on vacancies,'' he said.

''In the reserve category, a total of 98 candidates appeared and 32 qualified. Finally 24 were selected depending on vacancies,'' he added.
