AIADMK to stage protest demo before 3 Govt medical colleges

Chennai, July 6 (UNI) The opposition AIADMK will stage a demonstration on July 9 in front of three government medical colleges in Tamil Nadu to which the Medical Council of India (MCI) had withheld recognition.

The agitation would be held in front of Kanyakumari, Vellore and Theni medical colleges on Monday, when the counselling for admission to medical colleges would commence, AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalithaa said in a statement here today.

The AIADMK's decision to stage a demonstration came a day after State Health Minister K K S S R Ramachandran announced that the MCI had given its go-ahead for admitting students in these three colleges after the state government clarified its position in respect of some minor technical flaws pointed out by the MCI.

Ms Jayalalithaa said the agitation was to condemn the ruling DMK which was responsible for the flaws pointed out by the MCI in the three colleges.

Former chief minister O Panneerselvam would head the demonstration at Theni, J Jayalalithaa Peravai Secretary N Thalavai Sundaram would lead it in Kanyakumari and AIADMK student wing secretary R P Udaya Kumar would spearhead the agitation in Vellore.

She appealed the workers of the AIADMK including women and student wing members of the three districts to participate in the agitation.
