254 patients admitted to BMC hospitals

Mumbai, Jul 6 (UNI) As many as 254 people have been admitted to various Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) hospitals in the city due to monsoon-related ailments, since the start of rainy season this year.

Of the 254 cases in 16 BMC-run hospitals, 144 patients have been admitted for fever, 84 for gastro, 24 for malaria, and 1 each for suspected dengue and leptospirosis.

BMC Health Superintendent S G Damle told reporters that the suspected leptospirosis and dengue patients have been admitted to Rajawadi and Sion hospital respectively.

The number of patients in private hospitals is less this year, he said adding that the civic body will not distribute doxycylin tablets this year as the problem is not very high.

Health officer Jairaj Thanekar said, ''Fly menace is the biggest problem in the city and areas like Saat Rasta, Byculla, Antop Hill, and Ambedkar road are chronic spots. The BMC has started additional fogging in these areas.'' UNI JN KU AG2038
